Why hybrid stepper motors cannot generate high torque at high speeds

Release time:2023-09-25 09:07:40点击:

Hybrid stepper motors use hybrid transmission or hybrid stepper systems to increase the power and torque of the motor. This hybrid system allows the motor to work like a traditional or linear stepper motor, moving only in one direction, but also allows it to work like a DC motor, moving in both directions.

This hybrid system enables hybrid stepper motors to have higher resolution or step size, thereby improving the performance and efficiency of the motor, resulting in stepper motors having higher power but lower energy consumption than traditional or linear stepper motors. In hybrid stepper motors, another factor that limits high-speed torque is the current rise rate (dI/dt) in the winding, which is proportional to the applied voltage (v) and inversely proportional to the inductance (L) of the motor. When the speed of the stepper motor increases, the torque will decrease because the stepper motor cannot generate a large amount of torque at high speed. If the speed decreases, the torque will increase. The most important characteristics of stepper motor performance are precise positioning, good stall torque, and good low-speed torque. However, some applications require high torque at high speeds, and design/control specifications require the use of stepper motors. Hybrid stepper motors are known for their ability to generate high torque at high speeds, but they can be used in certain applications.
